It turns out that, not wanting to be left out, Dumpy (our smallest hen - with furry leg warmer style feet) is broody as well. Which is fine…but the prospect of 8 chicks running around the place isn’t so great. It also means that our egg production has hit rock bottom. We didn’t realise how much we relied on a daily delivery of 4 eggs (the best you’ll ever taste) until it was cruelly snatched away.
But we will muddle through, safe in the knowledge that pretty soon we’ll have even more of the blighters ready to fill our egg cartons (and bellies). Now, how long does it take before chicks turn into egg factories?
