What Does Leitrim Have to Offer?

Until around ten years ago, Leitrim was the 'forgotten' county of Ireland, with few residents and even fewer visitors. However, as a surge of writers, artists and musicians flocked to the secret land and set up their homes, so did the tourists, and now Leitrim boasts some of the best festivals, theatres, music and activities accross the land. Yet it still has a hidden feel - even those who have lived in Ireland for many years are unsure about where we actually are! The area has some of the greatest scenery accross the land - the peaks of mountains and breathtaking lakes are all closeby, with all the outdoor activities they bring.

Leitrim Highlights...

Taking in a great gig at the Glens Centre, a converted church in Manorhamilton offering intimate concerts, wonderful theatre and great films every week.

Kayaking Loch Gill with Dermot of Paddlemonkey, and paddling past the Lake Isle of Innisfree.

Joining in the Wise Woman Weekend, a festival celebrating women that happens each May.

Watching the sun set over Sligo Bay from O'Rourke's Table, a plateau an hours walk from Ard Nahoo.

Visting the gardens or taking a course at the Organic Centre in Rossinver.

Enjoying a weekend of rare movies at the Adaptations Film Festival, which takes place in Dromahair village each October. The festival takes the work of an author and their adapted works. Past guests include Roddy Doyle, Edna O'Brien and Bernard McLafferty.

Taking in a trad session and a pint of the black stuff in one of Dromahair's excellent pubs.

Indulging in the Harvest Feast Food Festival, or taking a meal in one of Leitrim's finest restaurants.

Swimming in Carrigincor when the weather is fine and the water's warm (trust us, it happens)

Playing with the kids at Lough Key Forest Park.
