Mother and Baby Yoga
Last week Ard Nahoo was full to capacity with previous graduates of their yoga for pregnancy course; with both mother and baby going to the Dromahair retreat to catch up. With the weekly classes beginning last September, there were older babies as well as newborns meeting for the first time. The reunion gave the mothers a great opprtunity to meet following their experiences with childbirth, after close bonds were formed throughout the duration of the course. Owner of Ard Nahoo and yoga teacher Noeleen Tyrrell says that "the classes were a great way for mothers to bond during their pregnancies. Each week we took time to share different experiences and problems, so the class settled a lot of worries as well as providing a space for relaxation. First time mothers especially valued the camaraderie of the group. It's great to see all of the mothers and babies together, and to hear more stories!"
However, it wasn't just the first time mothers who found the course useful. Aileen Masterson gave birth to her daughter Lucy in March, after attending the course since the previous September. "I found the yoga course to be so useful throughout my second pregnancy. When I had Ben three years ago, there was nothing similar in place, and I really valued the help I got both from Noeleen, Lauren and the other mothers. The courses also included a birth preparation class, which many of the women found useful in their experiences. "I'd had a c-section with Ben, so I felt that I hadn't really 'given birth', and really wanted the natural experience with Lucy. I felt so much calmer going into this labor, after the preparation Noeleen had given us. I knew what positions I would benefit from, and ended up giving birth naturally after a short labour, which was fantastic"
Some of the older babies had met already, after partaking in the Mother & Baby Yoga classes. This course of morning sessions was perfect for newborns, incorporating some stretches for the baby as well as recouperative poses for new mothers. Both this course, and yoga for pregnancy, will be running on Wednesdays at Ard Nahoo, with the mother and baby classes from 11am - 12pm and the yoga for pregnancy and birth preparation course from 6pm - 7.30pm. Regular classes run every Tuesday. For more information, call 071 91 34939 or email info@ardnahoo.com
