The part time course runs over ten months and will start 30th September 2017. Training runs one weekend per month (two full days) with the exception of an intensive residential when we will work for 5 full days. The residential will provide a valuable experience in totally immersing yourself in a yogic lifestyle and practice. The course is a Yoga Alliance Registered, 200 hr. training. Noeleen Tyrrell is the lead teacher and Director of the course, but guest teachers will lead sessions to share their knowledge with us about specific areas of interest.
Topics covered on the course include…
• Techniques Training/Practice
Includes asanas, pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation and other traditional yoga techniques. These hours will be a mix between: 1) analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques and 2) guided practice of the techniques themselves.
• Teaching Methodology
Includes principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, the student’s process of learning and business aspects of teaching yoga.
• Anatomy and Physiology
Includes both human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) and energy anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.). Includes both the study of the subject and application of its principles to yoga practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc.).
• Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers
Includes the study of yoga philosophies, yoga lifestyle and ethics for yoga teachers.
Includes practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and hearing and giving feedback. Also includes assisting students while someone else is teaching.
There will be homework, study, reading and project work. This will account for approximately 50 further non-contact (out of class) hours.
Pre-requisites: Students will need to have some working knowledge of yoga. Ideally you will have attended weekly yoga classes for at least 2 years. That said, each application will be treated on an individual basis as home practice and all previous experience of yoga will be considered.
Classes will start at 9am and finish at 6pm with an hour for lunch. Timetable for residential retreat will differ.
