With guest teacher Jayendra Hanley (Aug 18th – 21st)

August 18th – September 13th, 2017

The word “Anusara” (pronounced “AH-noo-SAH-rah”) is a Sanskrit term that means “flowing with grace.” It is also sometimes interpreted as “listening to your heart,” “going with the flow,” or “following your bliss.” Because of its focus on positive thinking, Anusara yoga classes are often uplifting and inspirational.

Anusara yoga provides a highly effective way to align the body with what is called “the optimal blueprint.” This blueprint is an energetic imprint of the physical body and represents the most ideal alignment of the body where all parts are integrated, open and functioning in the most optimal way. There is a specific sequence of steps in which the body becomes aligned to this blueprint, which are referred to as the Universal Principles of Alignment™. As the word Universal suggests, these principles apply to all people, of all ages, abilities and stages in life. The Universal Principles of Alignment are highly therapeutic and provide a basis of knowledge and approach for Yoga Therapy.

The philosophy that underpins Anusara yoga classes is referred to as a non-dual philosophy. This philosophy takes the premise that life is not a punishment, not a problem to overcome, but that life is essentially good. In our lives we have the potential of experiencing happiness in the highest way, when we align ourselves, both physically and mentally.

Come and join us for Ireland’s first intensive Anusara yoga teacher training. This programme gives you a chance to live and breathe yoga, immersed in a peaceful and inspirational setting. To take part requires strong commitment, enthusiasm and stamina from students with a passion for yoga that they want to develop further.

This is Noeleen’s first Anusara Teacher Training since becoming a Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher. For the first 4 days she will be joined by fellow Certified Anusara Yoga Teacher, Jayendra Hanley. For more information on Noeleen & Jayendra please see below.

The training takes place over an intense period, covering around 9 hours a day. We plan to work every day with the exception of 2 full days off and 3 half days.  Make no mistake, this is an intensive course, but one which is completely transformational.

The Anusara 200 Hour course has two distinct parts.

These include:

The Anusara® Immersion (100 hours)

The Anusara® Teacher Training (100 hours)

Both very distinct curriculum are superbly designed to bring the student on a journey of self-enquiry, deepening of personal practice and learning how to teach what you know and understand in a clear and empowering way.  On this course we will complete the Immersion and move directly to teacher training.

August 18th – 30th 2017

Our Anusara Yoga 100 Hour Immersion is an invitation to anyone who wishes to go deeper into their own practice and understanding of all things yoga.

Yoga is so much more than simply moving on your mat, it is a potent means for self-discovery and requires that the practitioner has courage to open up not only the physical body but the heart and mind too.  In this intensive yoga retreat we offer space and guidance to do just that while going deeper into the practice and learning.  The Immersion is suitable for yoga teachers, trainees and all levels of practitioners with the exception of absolute beginners.

In this introduction to the basic philosophy, alignment principles and practice of Anusara yoga, we will study and explore:

  • Universal Principles of Alignment™ – technique, lectures and asana practice
  • Yoga Philosophy
  • Pranayama and Meditation
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Journaling and contemplation

The Immersion is a pre-requisite for registration in the Anusara Teacher Training.

  • Applicants must have a very strong practice and understanding of yoga. It is difficult to say in terms of ‘years of practice’ how many are required as everybody starts at a different point and learns at a different rate. We will have telephone interviews and assess the suitability of each person individually.
  • Application form including photo of student in Trikonasana (Triangle), Adho Mukha Svanasana (Dog head down) and Sukasana (easy sitting or other sitting pose)must be submitted.   Please do not be intimidated by the photos, they are only needed to give us an idea of your sense of alignment in practice. If you are able to come and meet us prior to August then there will be no need for photos.
  • A love of yoga, stamina and a strong work ethic

Yoga Anatomy

We will look at the body structures relative to our yoga practice. The focus will be on the skeletal system and the muscular system as well as subtle anatomy. As a yoga teacher it is key that you understand how the body moves optimally.  We learn both at a cerebral level and on a kinesthetic level and use this learning and knowledge to ‘see’ our students more clearly.

Living Yoga

The intensive nature of the course will be very challenging on a lot of levels. You will be with the group for long hours each day which is great as a support as you can help each other in your understanding of all the new material you are absorbing on a daily basis. Living together harmoniously requires thought and structure.

You must commit to:

  • Being responsible
  • Looking for the best in everyone including yourself
  • Doing your fair share
  • Keeping all your personal belongings tidy

Karma Yoga

During the course of the programme students will be assigned basic household duties to ensure the studio and cabins are in good order.

There will be short ‘empowerment reviews’ as the course progresses but there are no formal exams as such.  These tests will show both you and the faculty what you know regarding technical skills and the Universal Principles of Alignment.  In this way the tests are really an empowerment tool.  The emphasis will be on teaching what you know and teaching it well.

Instead of a formal exam a process of continuous assessment (weekly) will run throughout the course.  After each assessment students must display that they have taken on board the critique and instruction from the director.  In short, 100% attendance does not guarantee a qualification!  We must see an improvement after each assessment.
